On 12th of June Russia celebrates one of the most important holidays- Russia Day. This date is heralded by the beginning of the newest history of the Russian Federation. The First Congress of People's Deputies of the Russian Federation adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic on June 12, 1990. A year later on 12th of June 1991 took place the first national direct open presidential elections, and Boris Yeltsin was elected as the first president.
