Ivan Savvidi’s Address for Greece Independence Day

Dear compatriots! Dear friends!

Every year Greeks all over the world celebrate this holiday which became ground zero for history of Greek nation. National-liberation revolution of 1821 resulted in long-desired liberation of Greece from Ottoman domination.

In the name of Orthodox faith, inspired by the idea of Motherland salvation Greek patriots careless of their life fought for freedom of the native land. We venerate Hellenic heroes, philhellenists, who succoured Greece in hour of need.

Russian Greeks will always remember great contribution of Russia into the struggle for independence of Greece. Ancient traditions of friendship and mutual aid, based on common spirituality, which connected our countries for ages, now are as strong as ever.

Russia-Greece cross-year is a great opportunity to give proper respect to centuries- old history of two countries, and give new impetus for further bilateral cooperation of our countries.

I wish you and your loved ones happiness, peace and prosperity, and I wish our nation spiritual unity, consolidation and cohesion against modern challenges.

Yours respectfully,

Ivan Savvidi,

Coordinator of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) of the countries of the Former Soviet Union,

Member of the Presidential Council of International Relations,

President of the National Cultural Autonomy of Russian Greeks.
