Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation shares concerns of Greek Diaspora about Christian religious monuments in Turkey
The letter sent to the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy says that it is unacceptable to use such objects which have the status of museum and preserved by UNESCO for an inappropriate purposes.
«We call Turkey to uphold the position of protector of religious and spiritual values of multireligious and polyethnic Turkish society and do not create additional causes for tension. »- mentioned in the letter.Ivan Savvidi addressed to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill with the appeal to protect Christian monuments located in Turkey due to the recitation in the Constantinople temple of Hagia Sophia. The main aim of letters is to initiate a discussion of the status of Byzantine religious monuments located in Turkey, and its preservation for the Christian community in the course of forthcoming meeting of Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
